"Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty."
This verse from Job 40:10 tells us to look beautiful for God. But wait...1 Peter 3:3-4 says "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight."
So what does this mean?
It's means that God wants us to be beautiful, but to have inner beauty. We
shouldn't worry about trending styles and fancy jewelry. We should make sure
that are spirits are beautiful. But why isn't outer beauty as important as inner
beauty?
Pretty much everyone knows what the
popular girls in school look like. They wear the latest fashions and pile on
makeup every day and put on amazing jewelry. But some of them (not all) are not
very kind. They spread rumors and bully other people.
This shows that people who are beautiful
the outside aren't necessarily beautiful on the inside. As 1 Samuel 16:7 says, “Man
looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
So, if we have clean, kind, cheerful, and uplifting hearts, we will be
beautiful to Jesus. It doesn't matter if we don’t look like the models in
magazines or the actresses on TV. We are beautiful to God, no matter what
anyone says.
